As Senior EU Analyst, Marta is responsible for developing Crisis Group’s advocacy strategies and liaising with EU and member state officials. She advises on EU policy and produces research and analysis on EU foreign and security policy related to conflict prevention, mitigation and resolution.

Professional Background

Before joining Crisis Group, Marta worked for the European Policy Centre, where she conducted analysis and regularly provided commentary on geopolitics, EU enlargement policy, and EU foreign and security policy. Previously, she served as advisor to the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the Council of the EU on Transatlantic Relations, where she represented Portugal in the relevant Council working groups and advised Portuguese senior officials in preparation for EU official meetings.

Marta brings over fifteen years of experience in government relations and EU diplomacy. She has worked with and consulted for a range of intergovernmental organisations, governments, think tanks and NGOs, including the EU Delegation to the United States, the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the American Jewish Committee and the European Commission, DG NEAR.

She has also frequently collaborated with research institutions such as the Portuguese Institute for International Relations, the Portuguese National Defence Institute and media outlets in Lisbon, Brussels and across the EU.
